The firearms industry is regulated by the federal government. Therefore, there are procedures we must adhere to when selling and transferring firearms. We are a federally-licensed dealer (FFL holder), so purchasing a firearm consists of two parts: The sale and the transfer.
You must be at least 18 years old to purchase a long gun and/or long gun ammunition. You must be at least 21 years old to purchase a hand gun, lower and/or hand gun ammunition.
You may purchase a firearm from any retailer. Once money has changed hands, the purchase is complete. But you cannot take possession of the gun until you complete the transfer portion of the transaction. If you purchase the gun from an online retailer, you must choose us as the FFL holder to conduct the transfer.
The seller will ask you which dealer they are shipping the firearm to. The seller will typically contact us and we'll exchange FFL information with them, so you may have to give the seller our contact information if we're not already listed with them.
It is very helpful if you would email an order number and a tracking number for the shipment once the sale is complete to us at firearms@coyletools.com.
By law, transfers must be done in-person at our sales office. We cannot deliver firearms. To complete the transfer:
We will submit your information to an FBI database for a criminal background check. If you presented a valid LTC, a background check is not required. Your LTC will be checked against a State of Texas database for validity.
Normally, the background check is instant. However, sometimes a submission must be researched and may take about 30 minutes to process. On rare occasions, a submission is delayed and may take up to three business days to process.
You can only take possession of the gun after the background check is processed and approved by the FBI.
The transfer fee is due even if you cannot legally take possession of the firearm.
It is your responsibility to know if you can legally own a firearm. We reserve the right to deny a transfer if we believe you are attempting a straw purchase or the gun will be used for illegal activity.
If you purchased the gun from a third party and had it shipped to us for the transfer, then receive a denial of transfer during your background check, resolution is between you and the seller. If the seller issues you a refund and wants the firearm returned, you must pay us the transfer fee and a return processing and shipping fee or relinquish the firearm to us.
If the seller will not issue you a refund, you must still pay our transfer fee and you will relinquish any claim to the firearm and it becomes our property. At our option, we can try to sell it on consignment for you for a reasonable trade-in value that we solely determine. We will not pay you the equivalent of your purchase price. We will not guarantee that the gun will sell or will sell by a particular time.
If you purchase the gun from us out of our inventory, we may opt at our sole discretion to refund your purchase, all or in-part.
If you purchase a gun from us that is a special order, we may opt at our sole discretion to sell the gun on consignment for you for a reasonable trade-in value that we solely determine. We will not pay you the equivalent of your purchase price.
In no case are we obligated to refund you any money since processing orders and purchasing inventory costs us time and money.
Our transfer fee is $40 for the first firearm and $25 for each additional firearm in the same transaction. Each individual transaction is $40. We accept cash and credit/debit cards. We do not accept checks.
Since transfers are by appointment, please note that if you fail to arrive without prior cancelation, a $20 fee will be added to the transfer fee.
The transfer fee is due even if you cannot legally take possession of the firearm.
If we ship a firearm to another FFL holder and it is returned, you are subject to the transfer process including completing all applicable forms, a background check and fees.
We're happy to ship your firearms to another FFL holder that you specify. Our $40 transfer fee applies, plus the cost of shipping and handling, which is calculated based on the size and weight of the package, the receiving address, and insurance. Insurance is required and determined based on the replacement value of the firearm. You are responsible for specifying the replacement value.
Provide the contact information for the receiving FFL holder.
You must provide a valid photo ID for us to process a shipment.
If a firearm we ship is returned or you change your mind and want it back once you leave the gun(s) in our sole possession, you are subject to the transfer process including completing all applicable forms, a background check and fees.
A straw purchase is when you purchase a firearm with the intent of giving it or selling it privately to someone else who cannot legally own it.
A straw purchase is also when someone pays you -- with money, services or any item of value -- to purchase a gun for them, even if they are legally allowed to own a gun.
A straw purchase is illegal. We will not be party to such a transaction.
You may gift a gun to someone or buy it for someone else as long as the other person may legally own a gun and you conform to all applicable laws.
Someone else may pay for a gun you are purchasing, as long as you are the actual buyer and the person who paid will not be acquiring the gun later.
Firearms dealers may implement their own policies regarding waiting periods, age restrictions and sales volume. They reserve the right to not perform the transfer for reasons they determine.
Our policies conform to all state and federal laws. As long as you can legally purchase and own a firearm, we are here to help you.
